Union Fenosa Wind Australia announces the completion of Early Works construction at Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale wind farms
Union Fenosa Wind Australia is proud to announce that it has completed Early Works at the Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale sites. The works were completed on schedule and within budget, and we're grateful for the assistance of GR Carr Construction (from Portland) and Davidsons Earthworks (from Koroit). Our site engineers, URS Australia, will now complete a final check of the sites to ensure they have been left in a tidy condition.
The company has completed the following works at the Ryan Corner site:
A site entrance from the Hamilton-Port Fairy Road, including drainage and fencing works• A 400m access track to a site compound.
A fenced site compound which has hosted an office and toilet facility for the duration of the Early Works. These rented facilities will be removed at the end of Early Works, and later reinstated upon commencement of the Major Works. The company has completed the following works at the Hawkesdale site:
A site entrance from the Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road, including drainage, safety flagging, and fencing works
A 200m access track to a site compound
A fenced site compound, which has hosted an office and toilet facility for the duration of the Early Works. These rented facilities will be removed at the end of Early Works, and later reinstated upon commencement of the Major Works.
All constructed tracks have been designed to withstand extremely wet conditions. The topsoil that was scraped away for the tracks has been replaced to form an edge tapering down from the crowned surface of the road, which will protect the tracks from high water in the event of a very wet winter. The access track that has been built at Ryan Corner has been “over-designed” , and the tracks will be monitored over winter to ensure that they withstand the wet conditions. This will assist with the design of the remaining access tracks for the Major Works.
A community newsletter was delivered to all residents within a 5km radius of the project, and the company has held monthly Community Engagement meetings at local hotels in Koroit, Yambuk, Woolsthorpe and Hawkesdale since December 2011. The company has also attended monthly Community Engagement Committee meetings with the Moyne Shire Council at Hawkesdale, and it made a formal presentation to Council on 6 March 2012 to coincide with the commencement of works.
The two projects will have a combined installed capacity of 196MW of renewable clean power. Union Fenosa will invest almost $500 million to build and operate both projects.
