The Project
Global Power Generation Australia (GPG) has partnered with Vestas Australian Wind Technology and are pleased to announce that Construction has now begun on Stage 1 of the Berrybank Wind Farm, the 43 Wind Turbine Stage 1 has an expected completion date for construction to be September 2020.
Construction of the internal access roads commenced on 17th April 2019.
The Berrybank Wind Farm site is located in South-Western Victoria approximately 14km east of Lismore and 16km west of Cressy. The site is approximately 130km west of Melbourne within the Victorian district known as the Western Plains. The project site is located within the Corangamite and Golden Plains Local Government Areas.
The project area covers an area of approximately 5,000 ha, where the current land use is primarily agricultural activities including grazing of sheep and cattle and crops (cereals, canola,…).
The Berrybank Wind Farm was granted development consent by the Minister for Planning in 2010 for up to 99 wind turbines and associated infrastructure. Berrybank Development Pty Ltd amended the development consent to increase the size of the turbines (Mod-1), although with this amendment the project turbines will be reduced by 20, and the application will be upgrading the remaining 79 wind turbines. The Mod-1 amendment will increase the overall dimensions of the turbines including a new tip height for the turbines at 180 metres. The project’s total capacity to be in the order of 290-330MW, depending on the turbine model finally selected. The Mod-2 application has been approved on 4 February 2018 by the Minister for Planning.
The project will connect to the grid via a new 220kV overhead transmission line and a switching station into the existing 220kV Ballarat-Terang transmission line. A separate planning application for a 220kV Utility Installation has been lodged with DELWP.
Victorian Renewable Energy Auction Scheme (VREAS)
The Victorian Government has established the VREAS to support achievement of the Victorian Renewable Energy Targets (VRET). These targets seek to ensure that 25 per cent of the State’s electricity generation comes from renewable sources by 2020, rising to 40 per cent of generation by 2025. Successful projects of the scheme were announced on Tuesday 11 September, 2018. Berrybank Development Pty Ltd was one of the developments within Victoria to be awarded a supply agreement through VREAS. Further information on the VREAS can be accessed at here.
The project will include an initial 43 turbines as ‘stage 1’ to commence in early 2019 with a completion date of Q3 2020. The support agreement with the Victorian Government and GPG consists of a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) at a regulated tariff.
Up to an additional 36 turbines will be constructed as part of ‘stage 2’, with a commencement date to be confirmed.

Landscape Screening Program
The landscape screening program involves all non-stakeholder residential dwellings existing as of the date of issue of the amended permits on 4 February 2018 (Permit Nos:200920820A and 200920821A) and which are within 4.0 km of an approved turbine is eligible to apply for landscape screening.
The Landscape screening program will commence concurrently with the commencement of construction of wind turbine pads and remaining open for 6 months after the final turbine has been commissioned.
The Landscape Screening Program will strategically use vegetation (i.e. trees and shrubs) to screen visible turbines from affected dwellings.
The program involves a site visit and meeting with a landscape consultant, and subsequently, preparation of a dwelling landscape plan.
