About the project
The Paling Yards Wind Farm site is located in the NSW Central Tablelands region approximately 60km south of Oberon, 60km north of Goulburn, 140km north-east of Canberra, within the Oberon Council Local Government Area.
The project area covers an area of approximately 4,465 ha. The current land use of the project is primarily agricultural activities including grazing of sheep and cattle.
The project proposes up to 47 wind turbines and associated infrastructure, with a hub height up to 151 metres, and a rotor diameter around 160-170 metres. The final turbine model is expected to have a maximum blade tip height of up to 240 metres, with a total project capacity around 275MW.
The project will connect to the grid via a new terminal station to be located approximately 8km north-east of the site, and will connect to the 500kV Transmission Line system.
Planning History
A previous development application was lodged in 2010 for the construction, operation and maintenance of up to 59 wind turbines and ancillary infrastructure, with an EIS submitted in 2014. The application was withdrawn in June 2020 following discussions with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, to allow for a revised application based on the latest wind turbine technology and current legislative requirements
